In the heart of the Marais district, close to the Fauconnier hostel, the MIJE Fourcy hostel welcomes you in its historical buildings and its vast courtyard which you can enjoy during the nice days. The MIJE youth hostels welcome you all year round in their 17th century buildings. Labelled by the French Ministry of Education, of Youth and Sports, the MIJE hostels have over 400 beds in private or shared rooms, a restaurant and two activity rooms. Just a 10-minute walk from Notre-Dame or the Bastille Opera, MIJE’s youth hostels are an ideal place to start your visits on foot during a stay in Paris. Thanks to the numerous means of transport nearby, you can also visit the most important places in Paris, such as the Champs Elysées, the Eiffel Tower or the Sacré-Cœur.

MIJE Fourcy, calm and comfort in the Marais district

An historical past

Before becoming a youth hostel in 1978, the Hôtel Charpentier known as “Le Fourcy” has a long history. In 1500 it was under the authority of the Saint-Eloi Priory and was inhabited by a King’s Counsellor, a certain Christophe Ripault. Gilles Charpentier acquired it in 1677 and transformed the house into a hotel. It had many inhabitants (the widow of a governor, a button maker, a boilermaker, a dairyman, a liquor merchant, a shoemaker, etc.), was divided in two and then reunited. It then housed one of the most famous “brothels” in Paris, “Le Moulin Galant”, which was closed in 1946.

In 1978, the City of Paris, owner of the premises, gave the Charpentier Hotel to MIJE, who completely restored the buildings to accommodate young people from all over the world.
