Choosing your accomodation
Which kind of stay for your school trip project?
Depending on your budget and the possibilities offered by each destination, you can choose between 2 main types of accommodation:
1 / Collective accommodation such as youth hostels, youth centres or traditional hotels.
2 / With a host family in small groups.
1- For collective accommodation:
Youth hostels
Collective accommodation (multi-occupancy rooms) managed by an association, whether or not a member of a national or international federation. As a result of an imposed (new standards) and/or pro-active (restoration/renovation) policy, the level of service and the quality of facilities have greatly improved in recent years both in France and abroad. Depending on the structure, the sanitary facilities are either on the same floor or in the bedrooms. Catering is very widely offered within the reception structure itself. Youth centres
Collective accommodation (multiple occupancy rooms) which is privately managed and may belong to a national or international network. The quality of the facilities and services can be superior to hostels due to large investments and, in some cases, designed ex nihilo. Depending on the structure, the sanitary facilities are on same floor or in the bedrooms. Catering is usually offered within the reception structure itself.
Traditional hotels
It is an establishment open to all publics or specialised in “young” clientele, it offers classic hotel services according to the classification respecting local standards. Our educational travel consultants will provide you with all the specificities according to the destination chosen. The hotels are located in the city centre or on the outskirts of the city, depending on the destination. These establishments are used to and adapted to receiving groups of young people.
Contrary to popular belief, the hotels offer attractive rates that are negotiated in advance each year, in addition to offering services such as towels and sheets. Another advantage of hotels is that they offer private bathrooms and toilets, which makes it easier for students to manage without having to leave their rooms to go to the toilet.
For collective accommodation:
- Tourist taxes are generally included in accommodation rates, except for Italy, Portugal and Greece where they are payable in cash on the day of arrival at the hotels.
- An increasing number of accommodation providers require a security deposit on arrival, usually in cash. This will be returned at the end of the stay if no damage has been found.
- Accommodating people with disabilities is now considerably easier in France and in Europe. MIJE travel consultants will help you prepare your trip, taking into account the needs of people with disabilities. The MIJE travel consultants will listen to you, give you advice and take into account the necessary adaptations in terms of accommodation and catering.
- Sustainable development is a major concern for many reception facilities. Initiatives range from awareness-raising to specific commitments (waste sorting, recycling, saving energy and resources, etc.). MIJE offers a range of “environmentally-responsible” educational travel programmes that call on professionals who are particularly committed to this field.
Accommodation in a host family
Our association entrusts the reception of young people to specialised service providers established in the destination country. These service providers run a network of local organisers in various locations. They are responsible for recruiting, selecting and checking host families. They will be your contact person during your stay and will handle allocation of students to the different families. Students are accommodated in small groups of 2 to 4 (5 exceptionally). Cancellations by host families may occur and last minute changes may be made up to the day of arrival. The families will welcome the students on the first day and show them the way to their meeting point. The meeting point is usually 10 to 20 minutes away on foot, or by public transport in major cities. On the following days, they will go on their own.
NB: Depending on the destinations and centres offered, support can be organised. When the group uses a coach, the coach provides daily pick-up and drop-off. The duration of the pick-up and the number of meeting points vary according to the location. Participants must make efforts to integrate into their host family and comply with community life, the customs of the country and of the host family.
